These days Amazon is producing some of the really great Indian TV shows. As a result, we can see a number of binge-watchable shows on Amazon Prime Video.

In September 2019, Amazon has released a new show named ‘The Family Man’ on Prime Video. As soon as it was released many people binge-watched this show and gave some really positive reviews.

Because of this, the popularity of ‘The Family Man’ series on IMDB is increasing day by and currently, it has got 8.9 ratings from more than 5000 people. Sacred Games on Netflix created this much hype for both of its seasons. Probably ‘The Family Man’ is the first Indian show on Amazon Prime to receive this much attention and appreciation.

Being a person who never misses a good TV show irrespective of the language, I was obviously eager to watch ‘The Family Man’. Most importantly it has Manoj Bajpayee who always gives his best and chooses scripts wisely. Hence one thing was confirmed that cast wise the show is good!

The cast  of ‘The Family Man’

Since we are talking about the cast, let’s look at the entire crew of this show.

Along with Manoj, Priyamani, Kannada actress who has worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam & Hindi is in the show as the wife of the family man. She is frustrated for managing things alone, stressed by her husband’s behavior who never spends time with her, handling kids, and fighting herself not to fall in the trap of an affair. She has given her best as Suchi.

Whenever the kids, Atharv & Dhriti are on the screen you will burst out laughing. Atharv’s sarcasm, Dhritis teenage frustration, their relationship with their parents, social media addiction, expecting more from their middle-class life, everything is much relatable in today’s life.

Sharib Hashmi as Talpade, Shreya Dhanwanthary as Zoya, Sunny as Milind, Gul Panag as Saloni, Dalip Tahil as Kulkarni are the team with whom Manoj work. The way they work together and show their love for the nation is incredible. They are ready to give their lives to keep people of the country safe.

There are many people who come as terrorists or linked to terrorists and Neeraj Madhav is the main amongst them. He is there throughout the story as Moosa as one of the main leaders of the terrorist gang.

Plot

As the show highlights, it is inspired by daily events. They have picked up some of the hot discussions that India is facing currently and knitted them together to make a story out of it.

As you see the trailer, one thing is evident that it is the story of the family man who tries to balance his personal life and work. Though he is working as an influential government employee, he keeps his profile low from the family and society.

The story runs around the mission Zulfikar which is planned by a group of terrorists. How they will find the criminals with the help of available clues, hints, and links is the plot of ‘The Family Man’.

Srikant Tiwari is a family man with a wife and two kids working as a special officer in the NIA (National Intelligence Agency). He is always busy chasing criminals, finding out terrorist plans, training junior associates and many other things. His family and friends are fed up with his unavailability during family gatherings yet for Srikant, Nation comes first.

The terrorist is from Kerala hence there are few Malayalam dialogues in the show. Balochistan, Kasargod, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kashmir are the main locations of the plot.

There are 10 episodes, each with almost 50-60 minutes duration.

Highlighted issues are;

Recently India revoked Article 370 in Kashmir which has received lots of discussions across the nation. From the time of India’s independence, the Kashmir people are suffering because of the fight between India and Pakistan. We don’t know what they are going through whenever there is a curfew, attack, blasts etc. Closed schools, no internet, suspended mobile networks, closed shops, and what not! This issue has been highlighted in ‘The Family Man’ story.

Also the most discussed topic Hindi imposition on other languages. The show highlights Hindi is not our national language and the Tamil language is quite older than Sanksrit. Hence every language needs to be respected.

Plus, the social media effect on today’s teenagers.  The way youth is busy on their phones 24/7 and how parents are finding it difficult to cope up with these developments.

Why you should watch ‘The Family Man’

  • This Amazon Original has the best cast including Manoj Bhajpayee, Priyamani, and many others.
  • The story is based on real-time events.
  • This show highlights the consequences of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
  • Probably the first Hindi show highlighting terrorism.
  • It is a mixture of family drama, love for the nation, and relationships.
  • Cinematography is good and real.

You can watch Episode 1 for free on Amazon Prime. If you like the story then you can watch it further with the Prime subscription.

What people are saying about this show…

Well, 8 out of 10 have liked The Family Man show. The way they have highlighted terrorism, Jihad effect on students, spreading hatred unnecessarily, acting by the crew and thus overall show has been appreciated by many people.

Few people have raised a concern about the way they have shown ‘The Family Man’ family, frustrated wife, angry teenager etc. Also, there is a scene where a person from Kerala says he hasn’t got any money in his account as promised by the government. This was also questioned saying it is against the Modi government.

Overall…

It is really one of the best shows to watch along with the family. We and our future generation should know the issues faced/facing by the government and circumstances, political pressure around it. Also, it is very easy to blame NIA, ATS, government whenever there is any attack but we don’t know what all happened backstage. Our army and all such departments are working day and night, away from their families to keep us safe. It is our duty to appreciate their work and respect the service they are offering to the nation.

Season 2 is coming soon..

Season 2 of The Family Man is expected to release in December 2020 starring Manoj Bhajpayee and Samantha Akkineni.
