You might have already read my articles on Netflix Shows & Indian Shows on Amazon Prime, so that makes it quite obvious that I’m a movie & web-shows freak. Hence, I always search for good movies or shows to watch in my free time. One such good movie I got to watch recently on ZEE5 was Manmarziyaan.
Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu & Vicky Kaushal, Manmarziyaan released to critical acclaim in September 2018. Right since the trailer launched, the movie made itself clear that it is going to be a complex love story with a distinctly regional flavor.
Check out the trailer here;
Regional flavor is common in Anurag Kashyap’s movies. Narrow streets, cramped terraces, & people of Amritsar are beautifully captured in the camera lenses thus depicting the true flavor of Punjab.
For me, the main thing which holds throughout the movie is Amit Trivedi’s soundtrack. Immersed in poetic Punjabi lyrics, every song is a treat to the ears.
However, for now, I’m gonna limit my talk about other aspects of the movie to talk about the amazing central characters of Manmarziyaan. Because in a few movies, characters hit you harder than the story! Manmarziyaan is one such movie.
The story revolves around 3 characters;
Rumi (Taapsee Pannu), Vicky (Vicky Kaushal), & Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan).
Rumi is that kinda girl who is not bound to society’s so-called restrictions. She lives freely and follows her heart. With the infectious energy and badass attitude Taapsee Pannu infuses in her role, Rumi keeps you hooked throughout the movie and makes us feel “Yes she is right!”
A bindaas Punjabi girl, Rumi perfectly showcases the complex dilemma of choosing between love and marriage. Sometimes, her character may come across as selfish but again you know the tantrums of the young generation.
Here comes Robbie. A silent, understanding and handsome London return Banker, who is in search of a life partner. Soft-hearted and innocent, I must say Abhishek Bachchan has done a wonderful job as Robbie. For most of the movie, he lets his eyes do the talking. Even when he gets agitated, he avoids going crass. Many can term Robbie as a serious no-nonsense guy, but in a few moments, Robbie gives interesting glimpses of his sense of humor, that makes many girls go gaga over the character.
Speaking of Vicky, actor Vicky Kaushal has given his best to this character. His funky body language and carefree attitude blend really well into the character arcs. In the movie, Vicky is not a good decision maker and is always confused. Whether it is cricket or DJing or his love life, ‘to be or not to be’ remains as the biggest challenge of his life.
As the movie quotes, Love isn’t complicated, people are! I completely agree. With complex yet relatable characters, Manmarziyaan shows the true hesitancy that happens with current generation men and women as they take some major decisions of their life.
Hence, I would highly recommend you go ahead and watch the movie on ZEE5 right away. Also, do let me know about your opinion about this movie in the comment section.
